Red lips on the go.

October, that time of the year again when you get the chance to dress up as whatever you think is scary and eat candy as much as you want. That was 2 weeks ago, 31st of October on a cold yet not so bad weather Friday. For this day MAC Cosmetics launched a creative, inspiring and nostalgic collection, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I got the chance to get my hands on the lipstick i wanted named Frank-N-Furter. A sensual red lipstick from their matte collection ( however, i don't think it's that matte, it has a certain shine on it more like a satin lipstick.) it applies really nicely, not chalky like the retro matte. I am in love.

Red lips, something so universal and loved since world war 2. It's a standard for every woman in her purse and it's a instant feel good for when you have one of those "no moral days". It's a look that couldn't be more feminine and speak sex at the same time. Even though it's hard for some people to understand why some of us wear it to work , during the day, while shopping,... and when those people see you wearing it, they give you this weird look like you came straight from another planet. It's still a taboo, mostly for people who have certain age or youngster who have a certain style and it comes across unappropriate and vulgar.

I'm one of those people who doesn't really care, i wear it whenever i want, with whatever i want and where ever i feel like it. I always have it with me in my bag.

So regarding this post on red lips i have made some looks to go with it, simple , quick , day and night-wear at the same time.

1st look:

look N°1

How to create it?

Easy pleases. Make sure your foundation sets well just to make sure it doesn't shift or let any redness pass. You can get a great result by simply using a primer. You can already have great primers for a small value, it's not that the more expensive it is the better it gets. No. Apply your foundation, preferably with a make up sponge or a foundation brush and yes, i do indeed put on my foundation first and add my concealer as i finish my foundation, regarding the concealer i use it quickly dries onto the skin and doesn't blend well underneath foundation (it gives a more natural result and in the end you don't need much of that concealer after all.). I apply my concealer using a brush and i also blend it with a brush this prevents your skin from breakouts and i apply it on certain zones in my face such as: cheeks(right next to the nose , mine can get red during the day), a little on my chin and forehead and this for the exact same reason as my cheeks. I also apply a little bit underneath the eyes to hide puffiness and darker circles. Top everything off with a hint of powder, not to much because you don't want to end up looking like a birthday cake. I also added up some sculpting powder using a brush to blend it in with the powder i used before.

I continue with the eyebrows, these really do make the whole impression of the face. I simply use an eyeshadow in a gray/light brown shade to accentuate them. I don't pluck my brows, don't find the need to it and i think it hurts, i'm such a wuss. finishing my brows i top them off by combing them with a clear eyebrow gel also, cheap or expensive, works both ways and they won't fall off.

On the eyes i used a primer in a natural shade using my fingers, to fix the eyeshadow that i'll put over it. On top of that i simply put a matte eyeshadow in a natural shade ( think cream color , champagne.) i apply this with an eyeshadow brush, a real brush not the sponge kind. Using a darker shade, i accentuate the crease. the color is more of a taupe brownish and i apply it with a blending brush; With this darker shade you connect a little bit on the lower lash line to the upper lash line which means they connect in the outer corner.  Brushes for your eyeshadow are very important, they make your eye make-up look more natural, you can blend as you like and you use less product. I did apply the primer with my fingers, it's a creamy texture and when you put it on with your fingers it blends perfectly with the warmth of the skin leaving a thin layer of make-up. At the end i first put on my mascara, using a lash curler and my mascara. to finish i add my liquid eyeliner, i always use them liquid, it's easier and faster. I start from the middle of the eye, very thin and as i'm going to the outer corner i make the line visibly larger. If you "wing" your liner simply do this from the eye going to the outside(direction of your hairline) this will make your liner look smoother and more elegant. allow your eyeliner to dry so don't go all crazy eye flicking when you just applied it.

At last , lips. For some hard to do and a time taker. You have to be at your ease for this. sit down somewhere comfortable, you take a mirror and your lipstick. At first you apply the lipstick, allover on the lips following your own lip line or you can also outline them for bigger lips(like i always do , surprise surprise!).
Outlining doesn't have to be perfect, you can add up your lip liner after or adjust it with a brush and your powder. So if you do have a lip liner, simply outline the lips. Best thing to do is start from the middle and go to the corners, same thing with the underlip.
If you don't have a lip liner in a red shade within reach you simply take your powder, take a cotton bud , go in your powder and smoothly outline the imperfections with it. Don't ever try this with make up remover, it'll just remove your foundation leaving you a weird stripe of nude skin contour.

2nd look:

Look N°2

Using the same products as i used in the 1st look i just changed the eyeshadow colors. Let's forget about the winged liner and the 50's look. I applied yet again my primer to fix my eyeshadow with my fingers and make it blend really well. After doing this i take a metallic champagne colored eyeshadow and apply it allover except under the brows. Don't forget to put it in the inner corner of the eyes, this'll make your eyes look fresher and it brightens up the look. After this i put on a dark brown eyeshadow, blend it with the lighter shade of shadow underneath and i add up as much as i want to deepen out the look. You also apply it in the crease of the eye, for those who have no idea what the crease is no worries! if you feel your eye, the part where the eyeball meets the brow bone it's like a line in between both where there is nothing but flesh and its deeper than both this is your crease. At the end i take this eyeshadow which is kind of special , its a metallic dark brown and if you turn it in the light it gives this amazing effect that is green/blue, so beautiful and brilliant! So i add this one on top of the dark brown and allow them to blend by using a blending brush. Underneath the eyes, on the lower lash line, i use the last shade of eyeshadow and i connect the lower lash line with the upper lash line. This allows your look to be a bit more smokey and deeper.
For the eyeliner this time i used a kohl instead of a liquid, so i applied it on top of all the shadows the closest you can get to your lashline and i blend it with a very small flat brush.
At the end i put on my mascara and i was off to go!
